Zhaohu Li, an Auburn University College of Agriculture alumnus, has been named president of Huazhong Agricultural University, one of the top agricultural universities in China. The institution is located in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province.

Li earned his doctorate in weed science and crop physiology from what is now Auburn’s Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences in 1998. He most recently had served six years as vice president of China Agricultural University.

College of Agriculture Dean Paul Patterson said he is excited about Li’s appointment.

“To rise to the presidency of such a prestigious institution as Huazhong Agricultural University speaks volumes about Dr. Li’s stature as both a scholar and a leader,” Patterson said. “We are proud to have him as member of our alumni family.”
