Desmond Layne, Auburn University Department of Horticulture professor and head, has been selected as a 2018 fellow by the American Society for Horticultural Science.
The society is one of the most respected and influential professional organizations for horticultural scientists and works to promote and encourage international interest in scientific research and education in all branches of the field.
Fellowship status is the highest honor awarded by the society and recognizes outstanding contributions to the horticulture industry and the organization. Layne has been an active member of the association since 1986.
Layne assumed department head post July 1, previously serving horticuluture professor and academic program director at Washington State University. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, and master’s and doctoral degrees in horticulture with an emphasis in pomology from Michigan State University.
