The College of Agriculture’s Department of Horticulture recently hosted a greenhouse management short course for Alabama agriscience teachers. The three-day workshop taught the teachers how to manage and grow greenhouse crops for classrooms and Future Farmers of America programs.

The workshop included topics on growing and managing greenhouse crops, growing systems in hydroponics, soilless media and fertigation management, designing containers, and concepts of floral design.

The workshop also provided an excellent opportunity for networking. “The intent was to connect with our teachers from around the state,” said Wendy Vidor, lecturer in the Department of Horticulture. “Indirectly, we used the workshop to network with teachers to help in student recruitment to Auburn’s horticulture and agriscience programs.”

Vidor said the horticulture department intends to offer the workshop once a year with a different focus on horticulture and agricultural science.
